I got a new desktop for gaming yesterday and both the onboard sound and PCI express sound card will not work. I have tried everything from looking at all the cords to looking at the hardware and software managers to no avail. The only hint I have is that the drivers may be in conflict but when I disable the onboard noting happens. The card is the Asus Xonar DX2 and cost me an arm and a leg. This requires power from the PSU but I see no problems in this regard. The motherboard is the Asus p6t deluxe and it is installed in the PCI express*16 slot although I am wondering if it would actually work if it was in the PCI*4 slot. I contacted customer support and they gave me the typical trouble shooting guide. Also the OS is 64 bit and this could have something to do with it but I think the driver is 32/64 bit. Please help me as it is holding up everything I want to do with it. Help would be great..

It may be a good idea to disable your onboard sound if you;re not using it. Even a small conflict between your normal soundcard and the onboard sound system is enough to prevent it from working. Also, makae sure the drivers for you normal soundcard are up-to-date, it's amazing how quickly they are superseded by newer ones. Another thing, try a FULL antivirus scan, followed up by a FULL spyware scan. You may not find anything, but it's always better to be on the safe side.
