Okay i want my freeview box and ps3 to have surround sound. My freeview box is a thomson DTI6300-16 and it has a rf digi audio connection and a red and white audio in connection. My ps3 has a digi optical out connection and a hdmi connection. And my telly has a audio in white and red connection and a load of coloured component connections, as well as scart connections, and 2 hdmi connections.
So whats the cheapest way of doing this and getting quite decent sound, and also it being pretty loud. Can you suggest a product and also tell me if im going to need any additional leads? Also if its possible im going to be geting a laptop soon and i wanted to also be able to connect it to my surround system, what will my laptop need to be able to do this and will i need any extra leads?

ANSWER

Just plug the PS3 and Freeview into the TV, then buy a surround sound system (you can get a decent one for about £60 or less online) and plug that into the TV. the signal from the Freeview and from the PS3 should be transferred into the surround sound.
As for the Laptop, if you only want audio, then a twin phono to 3.5mm lead will do (the headphone socket on the laptop to the red and white plugs in the TV) or just a 3.5mm to 3.5mm to plug the headphone socket of the laptop to the headphone socked of the surround sound (if it has one, otherwise you'll have to go through the TV). If you want Video from the laptop to the TV, then check for a VGA or DVI socket on the laptop and TV. If the TV has neither of these, then look for a S-Video or RCA lead.

Then its just a matter of buying the appropriate leads, which shouldn't be more than a couple of pounds.

You shouldn't need anything special for the laptop because it should come with an inbuilt sound card, but if you want decent quality sound, then i recomend an upgraded sound card that can handle 5.1 surround sound (a basic one may not be able to, but just do a bit of backround checking before hand).

(Also is the infos correct then can you please tell me what is ment bymy sound card not being able to handle 5.1 surround sound, does it mean it will play out of my surround speakers but not all of them, thanks so much for any help)
