Essentially I am a sky broadband customer and have the 8mb unlimited package, In off peak times, they happily give me about 6.5 out of my 8megs. but when it get's to peak times it can drop as low as 50-100 kbps .

I have rung them and they insist that it is because it is net set up in my main phone port and the internet has caused an "electromagnetic" malfunction in the internal wiring of the house and as such slows the connection down and will eventually be at a standstill.

Is there any truth in this or is it just a load of bull?

Sounds like rubbish to me, but you can discount any problems with your own wiring by plugging your modem/ router directly into the master socket.

If you have a NTE5 master socket (the one with a split face plate like like one on the right here), you can unscrew the front of it, pull off the front and plug your phone/ adsl cable directly into the socket behind.

If you suddenly experience an increase in speed, the problem is your end and you need to sort it yourself. If not, it's Sky's end and they need to fix it.

I can't see it being the wiring in your house as it would be slow during off peak times if that was the case.

Is your sky router protected so nobody is piggy backing off your connection in the evenings..

no its generally up to speed out of peak times, cant see it been the routers problem, its really annoying, if its not sorted for modern warfare 2 , i will not be impressed. =]

The only thing I can see it being is maybe an issue at your local exchange...do any of your neighbours have broadband. If you know them see if they are having any problems..

It might not just be an issue with Sky, if its the local exchange it could be affecting everyone.
