I have registered and created this topic just to show how awful I think the review on here of the Orange Vegas is. The review says nothing about the actual phone and i think the Language used is totally offense and unnecessary. It is not funny and not even helpful. below is a copy and paste of the review found at http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39029453,49302091,00.htm

Orange Vegas: Touchscreen for the skint

By Flora Graham on 24 April 2009, 11:57am
Mobile Phones

Nowadays even hobos and toddlers have mobile phones, and they demand features. For them, Orange has announced the Vegas, which it says is the cheapest touchscreen phone in the UK.

The Vegas has an 1.3-megapixel camera, an FM radio and an MP3 player. It sports 128MB of internal memory, with room for up to 4GB more if you stump up for a microSD card.

It's only dual-band, but tramps don't go abroad, so that's cool. Orange says that at only 84g, it's the smallest and lightest touchscreen mobile on the market, so babies will have no trouble clutching it in their tiny hands.

It's going for only £48.50 on pay as you go and it's available from the Orange Web site in homeless black or cuteykins pink.

Hi vgjhvjgvhgc,

I hear what you're saying and I'm sorry that you were upset by this article.

You're absolutely right that it was meant to be funny, and not a personal attack on anyone -- not on victims of economic inequality, not on people interested in an inexpensive mobile phone, and certainly not on our readers!

It was news of an announcement, not a review. We will be doing a full review of the Vegas and we'll approach it with an open mind and a thorough investigation of its features.

Cheap phones are great! Not everyone wants to shell out for the priciest one on the market, and we know that. Please stay tuned for the full review.

Best wishes,
Flora

I thought the review was pretty funny although I'm not a tramp, well not yet at least.
But it does look like a pretty bad phone, don't think apple have too much to worry about.

It's not even a review - it's a crave article, which are meant to be funny and generally tongue-in-cheek.

Are you a tramp? If not then I don't really see why you're getting offended - it's only in reference to how little it costs (and how poor it is). And there's not a lot of talk about the phone because there's nothing to talk about, all it does is call and text and the touchscreen will be dreadful, that's why it's so cheap.

So I have to be a tramp to be offended weetnhops? I think that's pretty narrow minded and i will further explain why I was offended so hopefully u can understand.

If u read the comments below the article I was not the only one who thought the language used in the review/article/whatever was poorly chosen and I doubt any of those people were actual "Tramps" either. I just thought comparing people who are on a budget (particularly during an economic crisis) to a "Tramp" was comparable to school yard mentality and did not have the sensitivity I would've expected.

I am aware there was meant to be a comical tone but the point this phone being for "Tramps" was so heavily, and needlessly labored without any sense of irony. I guess the humor was based on the fact that you wouldn't expect a "Tramp" to have a mobile phone. I However don't find this funny because I feel that not expecting a "Tramp" to have a mobile phone, is for lack of better word ignorant. I base this on the fact that homeless people may in fact have friends and family to call, homeless people can be homeless for a variety of different reasons.

I am not devoid of a sense of humor and I appreciate well timed comedy being a huge fan of programs such as south park. I guess having been made redundant from my job due the current times, this article was, in my opinion, in questionable taste.

The main point however to why the article upset me was that I find the term "Tramp" to be derogatory in essence, and I would personally liken it to any other words used to describe a person in a disadvantaged/minority group. I won't be as coarse as to actually name some of these terms but I would hope that my point is clear.

However I am thankful that the writer of the article has replied to this thread. I am satisfied that the article was not intended to be offensive which is, of course the most important thing. My shock at the article prompted me to post this thread. However in hindsight I should have explained why I thought was offensive rather then just stating that I thought it was, and for that I do apologize. After all different people all have different opinions of what terms are acceptable in everyday use and I am not one to hold a person accountable for this, like I said before, I was just shocked.

That said I wish Cnet and all their staff the best for the future.

As I put in my comments on the article, I am not a tramp and have a pretty sick sense of humour but I can see how people will take offence to it when people are losing jobs left, right and centre and even without that happening, not everyone can afford the best tech. If that was the case, there would be more flashy restaurants on the high street than McDonalds'

I can't see how this would offend anyone even tramps, get off your high horse and get back to your copy of the daily mail they should help you find some other pointless topic to get wound up about.

Yes I don because these people annoy me and I don't usually get a chance to reply to there petty grievances.

Like the time Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand got put off TV for making fun of some person, they got very little complaints until people who heard they might be offended decided to complain just in case they would have been if they had been listening (yeah off topic I know).

I don't really see why something offending a minority of overly sensitive people (obviously up to a point) should be reason for other people to apologise. Should they have to apologise to me because I find there offence offensive?

So from now on I think that when people say "That offends me" we should follow the advice of the great Stephen Fry and say "So f**king what!"
