I do have doubts now though, even though Orange have said yes they don`t really have any experience with the iphone. I know that with o2 a simpliciy sim will work with a payg or contract iphone. Im worried that once the iphone is activated it will then only accept the Orange payg sim.

As weetanhops said above, there's a possibility that a SIM lock may happen - but I think this might depend on how the phone is activated, either in shop or by yourself at home - in which case it might be possible to choose what SIM is locked to the phone. But it's also possible, according to Flora above, that we may be able to swap SIMS as long as they are Orange SIMS as the same is possible on O2 iPhones.

It's very confusing and I really wish I could find some solid information but I know it's days before the release. I may be better off waiting a while rather than rushing out on Tuesday to buy a phone I don't even know will work properly!

I'll try and look into it for you guys, or I could try and get Flora to have a look (although she's probably seen it already)

Thanks for the offer, weetanhops. But if it's too much trouble don't worry. I don't suppose it'll be possible to find out until after the 10th when it's released. Perhaps someone who gets an Orange iPhone will see this thread and kindly let me know. :-)

Hi Nick, based on my experience with O2, you should have no problem doing this.

O2 would also say 'it's not recommended' but feel free to ignore them.

I haven't testing it on Orange, but with an O2 iPhone, I have never had any trouble swapping various contract and SIM-only cards with no trouble. I do have to change the data settings as noted above, but it's easy to do.

I cannot guarantee it will work because I haven't tested it. But I am confident that it will.

I know what you mean, its alot of money at the end of the day. As you know im in the same situation as you, i have phoned Orange who said yes it will work, i then called into an Orange shop and they said yes it will work. I then phoned Orange yesterday begging for an early upgrade lol which they said no too. So i asked again about the payg with a contract sim, the guy said " yes it will work as i know someone who has tested it in an Orange shop. All you will have todo is get a web bolt on for the full use of the iphone" I will be out next friday in various shops with hope i can test my sim in one of their demo iphones but im quite confident it will be fine!!!!!!!!

Also does anyone know if the sim pack is seperate on the o2 payg, if so can the contact sim be used to activate????

Thanks very much, Flora.

It's the first time I've been able to get into an Orange shop today, both advised me that it should work but can't be 100% sure. So I've reserved a white 32GB 3GS for a £60 deposit and was advised I can test my SIM in it when I go to pick it up. If it doesn't work, they'll give me a refund! Great!!

Will report back when I get it! But if anyone else finds out before me, feel free to post. :-)

3GS 32GB....... you must have some money mate!!! Looks like you will be getting one before me then, so please can you keep us posted? My partner called into Orange today, they told her that they will be registering them in store with the sim card but she wasn`t sure if it was payg or contract customers. Do you have an info on this?

No, that is something I didn't ask, but I would imagine that would have to register the phone instore for Pay Monthly customers but it's probably not so important for PAYG customers. I'll make it clear I don't want the PAYG SIM registered when I buy it and that I'll do it at home or something.

I have had a response on another forum that suggest Apple lock the iPhone through iTunes. Anyone have any info on this as I don't understand that.

From what i know they are networked locked anyway. When connected to itunes for the first time this activates and registers the iphone, well thats how it works with o2 so Orange must be the same. Are you collecting yours tomorrow?
