Does an all-round phone for less than £200 exist?

Hi everyone

Need some advice picking a phone and know that this is the best source of knowledge on the net.

I've always used Sony Ericssons and love their interface, however been using a (naff in my opinion!) Nokia N70. I just can't get on with the UI and its waaaay to sloooow for texting or any other task so I'm looking around. I'm on a really good Sim Only monthly deal with free broadband so don't want to go back on contract, so its got to be handset only.

Heres what I've looked at, considered....
Iphone 3g 8Gig....350-ish new, v's 250-280 second hand. A lot of money to buy new with added risk of something going wrong with the handset. Second hand, always going to have the risk of buying a lemon or fake attached, and its a lot of cash for something second hand.
Also toyed with Blackberry Curve 8900. Again, 300-ish new for handset only. Same as above, although might pick one up second hand for around 220-ish.

So I'm thinking, is there a phone that I'm overlooking that I could buy new for sub £200?

I text quite a bit. I'm an average web user but not addicted. Impartial to touch screen or standard, as wouldn't mind the new experience of a bigger screen....anything is going to be amazing compared to the N70!

One thing I do need is bluetooth headset compatibility. Either my n70 bluetooth has packed up or my headset is knackered, so thats important.
Camera isn't important...I use DSLR's for that.
I have an ipod which works fine, although it has the potential to collapse somewhere down the line, being second generation.....on a recent trip to Tokyo some Japanese kids seen it and said ' ahh, antique daiyo!!' which was quite funny!

Only other consideration is I use Macs, so would need to be compatible. Do I just hang in there and try to find a second hand 3g 8Gig iphone, or 8900, or look further down the pecking order?

I'm guessing theres gotta be heaps of great technology out there for less money? I just can't get my head around justifying paying £350 for a handset thinking an international airfare has got to be a much more worthwhile experience?

I keep throwing this around recently, but you could get the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic for £130 if you look in the right places. Doesn't have 3G or GPS but it does have Wi-Fi. It's a touchscreen phone but its features place it at sub-smartphone level, and for that price it's pretty incredible.

Only thing is I'm not that keen on Nokia UI's, although for that money I could put up with it. Any views on Blackberry 8520?

The trackpad is really nice on it, I thought that it wouldn't be better than the little ball thing but it is, and it won't gather dirt and get stuck. As with all BB the keypad is fantastic. No 3G, but I think it has 2G and Wi-Fi. Wouldn't be a bad choice at all.

I'm not a fan of Nokia's touchscreen phones, like the 5530 XpressMusic -- I think you're right to be wary of the user interface, because I don't think that Nokia's got the hang of touchscreen UIs yet. Also I dislike the resistive screen, which isn't as bright or responsive as other touchscreens.

On the other hand, I really liked the BlackBerry 8520 -- if you can live without 3G. It's less expensive, and it shows -- it doesn't have all the features of the top-end BlackBerries. But it's just as usable, with a good keyboard, lots of useful apps, and a nice screen.

Had a look at Nokia 5800 and Sony Ericsson W760 yesterday coming in about 185 and 165 respectively. Neither felt like quality at all....guy in the shop said I should either look for a good second hand Iphone 3g 8Gig or a Blackberry, although wasn't sure how compatible it would be with a mac, which I feel I want if I'm paying quite a bit of money for it.

Going to have a look at the Blackberry 8520 and compare it with the Nokia music express.

Anyone else any input or advice on phones I should consider sub £200
