Recomendation for a laptop @£3-400 for hd photos & video?

I am looking at getting a laptop for my dad for x-mas and it will be his first computer of any type!
but has got to the point where he needs one to utilise one in order to transfer photos from his new Panasonic TZ7 camera and as well as a digital slide scanner he has for transferring all his 35mm film to disc plus music files also would be on the agenda once he gets one .

So can anyone suggest a particular model to go for around the £3-400 mark that has a good hard drive storage on it with the compatable specs that could handle what my dad would need to do photos and video on it?
