Hi folks.
We've just had a hands-on with the MSI Wind and we think it's REALLY REALLY GOOD. Better than an Eee PC 900, in fact. What do you reckon?

The preview is encouraging. Although, I want to know exactly what they've put under the hood and what the Linux pricing will be.

The snag is that I don't think those yet to get a mini notebook can consider buying a Wind until they can compare it to the numerous other mini notebooks that are soon on the way.

I wouldn't normally say this... But.. I'd blindly purchase a Wind regardless of everything else about to be unveiled. It's that good.

Having said that, the 10-inch Eee PC is definitely worth watching out for. Assuming they've improved the keyboard, that is.

We'll unveil the full MSI Wind spec on Tuesday, CPU & all.

Cool, I'll look forwards to finding out what they've put in the Wind. And, I'm taking on board your unreserved recommendation.

Speaking of Asus, I just can't think they they haven't improved the keyboard. As arrogant as this may sound, I figured out what is wrong with the Eee keyboard after only a 15 minute play with one.

It really isn't the width. I could place my hands over the Eee without my fingers spilling off the side, add to this that being the uber-geek I am, I could touch type fast on a Psion Series 3c, (back in the day). So I honestly believe the Eee's problem isn't size, because I believe it's possible to type fast with a keyboard smaller than the Eee has.

I think it's that the keyboard is flat, rather than having tapered keys like all the competition has. This means that your finger tips don't have a clear enough cue to sense where one key ends and another starts - THAT is why you will end up mashing several keys at the same time on an Eee.

I'm sure someone at Asus must have figured this out too. Actually, there's a photo of the 10" Eee on Engadget and the keys do look very different - so fingers crossed. Although I'd like to see the 701 and 900 keyboards revised.

Hi - Does anyone know where I can buy one of these today?

Online or in London?

Thanks!

Apparently they're not out until the first week of June. So I think you'll have to settle for finding someone taking pre-orders.

Rory,
Am I mis-reading between the lines in your preview or have you heard that the Linux version have lesser specification than the one you got to play with?

Alright, so ive done my research, on the verge of buying an eee 900 (Linux) when you started talking about it in my mind (I forget I'm wearing headphones half the time and think that you're figments of my imagination), so good save.

Battery life, screen, keyboard, overclocking altogether makes it sound like an eeepc on speed, but does the fact that it has a hard-drive instead of solid state mean that it might be more liable to damage, which obviously would be a major downside for a supposedly portable (which often implies durability).

Also, I know that it's avaliable with Linux but if XP is the standard, won't that mean that the ultra-portable will only last so long before it falls into Bill Gates' pit of degrading functionality (not the snappiest name I grant you). Having said that, thank god they're not sticking Vista on there.
