I am looking to buy a desktop PC (spending roughly in the range of £400-700) that will enable me to do the following basic things: - Basic internet usage (although quick performance on the internet is essential) - Basic word processing - iTunes with an average size library of MP3s - Storage of an average size library of digital still photos - No gaming, media, etc. capability required - DVD burner needed - Medium-size monitor - I have a wireless router, modem and Buffalo Linkstation that I will plug in externally - Very little need for downloading large files from the internet I would be VERY grateful for anyone's advice re: the type of computer to get. In particular, type of operating system, processor, hard drive, RAM, etc. (or at least minimum requirements for what I need) and any suggestions for particular brands of computer to get. I just want something solid and reliable - getting good value is important. Many thanks in advance!

Ok first of all do you mean like a desktop PC? or a laptop? Anyways, for the things you want to do you may as well just go with windows as for that i would say you should only spend £500 tops (laptop or desktop + monitor) Ok RAM: You will only need 2gbs of RAM as you pretty much have to go with vista but i recommend getting a laptop/desktop with a free upgrade to windows 7 which is due to come out very soon. Hard Drive: Ok i would say 250GB or more would be enough you might want to get a little bit more but i doubt you would need it. Processor: Any dual core will do, if you get a laptop though you would get off with a high end single core though. Graphics: For a laptop just go with the built in one it wont matter probably same with the PC although its not that much extra for a cheap graphics card. I had a quick look on ebuyer and found these: Desktops: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173366 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/167441 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169708 Laptops: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169123 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/164329 Also if you ment desktops you might need a screen, any screen for here should do. Also you say you want good internet. no matter how good or bad your computer is it wont make a difference with the internet, thats to do with the ISP and the connection speed so in theory your internet will be the same speed it is now.

Pretty much any desktop would do. Take a look at mesh computers or dell as they are usually good value
