Acer woes.

A point worth noting if shopping for a laptop is the after-sales service you would get.
During the past year I have bought 2 Acer laptops. During that time, I was unfortunate to suffer motherboard failures on both. I don't complain about this - luck of the draw with cutting-edge technology.
Both repairs occurred about 6 months apart, but what a difference I experienced. Laptop 1 was fully repaired with a turnaround time of 4 days. Very pleased I was.
Laptop 2 was totally different. The Acer call centre has now moved offshore manned by staff keen to know what our weather is at the moment. The immediacy of speaking to someone who has some sort of grasp of computers has now gone. Far worse though, is this time the turnaround has gone up to 3 weeks. Considering the laptop was sent in for not powering up, the motherboard was replaced, but someone didn't think to check the power supply. Sure enough, when I got the laptop back, it wouldn't run off the power supply. It took another week to get that replaced.

Could I recommend Acer laptops - definitely - as long as it doesn't need repairing.

Interesting, i was thinking of getting an Acer model around the £400 mark for my dads x-mas present. Maybe i should take out the extra insurance policy on it if i buy one!
I was looking at Acer as i thought they had a reputaion of been on of the reliable one' s on the block.

It is not just Acer, unfortunetely it is a sign of the times for a while now for companys to up sticks to overseas to save on production costs & wages only for long term they will all shot themselves in the foot thinking they are saving a few £xxxxxx but 5-10 years down the road for these companys they will have such a bad reputation for bad customer service, ie - cal centres abroad or the product quality deteriating, or both in the equation they will all eventually look at having to have a hub again back in rainy old England at some stage!

God Save the Queen! (and all company's from desserting our island!) ; )

The extra insurance, called 'Acer Advantage', doesn't get it fixed quicker. I took out the extended warranty as well. Definitely cheaper than the competition at 40 odd quid for an extra two years.

My faults developed during the first year in any case.

I'm disgusted that they call themseves a technician if they didn't check the psu, in the case of not powering up it is by far the most common cause, that's just ridiculous and to have it that long too!
