Hello,

I DON'T want a TV but I do want to play DVDs using a DVD player (not a PC/laptop). So, I was hoping there are PC monitors that are compatible with DVD players but don't have in-built TV tuners. Are such monitors available?

Thanks!

This will, most likely, completely depend on the input/output options on your DVD Player or Monitor.

If both have a HDMI port then it should work, assuming that the monitor has built-in speakers, that is (or you have external ones that can plug in to the monitor or DVD player).

SCART to VGA cables exist but they're expensive. Also, remember that VGA is video only, it does not handle audio, so again, you'll need external speakers to get sound, assuming that the DVD player in question has the output jacks for it.

It's a lot easier to just get a TV and connect a DVD player to it, methinks.

For about £30 you can get a device that allows you to connect any video source to the VGA input of your monitor. I used to do this, and as a consequence have this exact model. You connect the device through compostive video and connect the VGA output to your monitor. If you don't have a monitor that has dual inputs e.g VGA + DVI, the device also passes through VGA from your computer to the LCD/CRT though the same input.

This also allows you to use your computer and picture in picture the dvd from the connected dvd player though this is pretty pointless. The unit also has a built in analogue tuner, so should you want to watch TV you can.

I agree with pokeh. You might as well just get a TV but not use the tuner in it, and you'll probably get better picture quality than a monitor. Most monitors will have higher resolution -- useless for use with a DVD player

Easiest way to do this is to get a DVD player with HDMI out, and then get an HDMI to DVI cable.

You won't get the best quality out of DVDs on a monitor, because they don't have the same picture processing as TVs, but it will work.
