Hi, I have a traditional style Technics SU8011 amplifier with separates in the same room as my 4-year old Sony TV and DVD player with 5.1 speakers. I can't help feeling it would make sense to have both hi-fi and TV/DVD using the same high quality speakers. What are the options? New amplifier? New speakers? Can't be done? I'm also thinking of upgrading the TV to HD, but I'm holding off until I get the sound system right. DT

If they have stereo out, you can put the TV and DVD player through the HiFi amp by just using a couple of the inputs, AUX, AUX2, CD2 or maybe tape (but not phono) . You could also see if the HT system accepts auxilliary stereo in if you want to do it that way around.

Thanks, that's helpful. The amp has one aux input, so I could certainly take the DVD through that route. Not sure if I can get the 5.1 speakers connected to the hi-fi though. The other option appeals more, because I could keep the surround sound, but I need to find out more about how the hi-fi signal goes into the TV/DVD speaker system.
