Hi there,
Hoping you can help me choose a new digital camera.

My primary uses are going to be photographing documents (instead of using a scanner), and for filming close up video reviews. Secondary use will be taking photos of special occasions; I do tend to use my phone for impromptu snaps.

Therefore, my requirements are:
* Macro shooting ability (i.e. minimal pin cushion effect)
* Video
* Plenty of manual settings
* Either be powered by AA batteries, or can charge via USB (i.e. I don't want to have to use a separate charger for a proprietary battery).
* Long battery life would be nice.

Budget £100-£200

Personally, I would choose a canon, from previous experience. They have quite a few models that will fit into your budget, as well.

Manual features- Most canon cameras have a wide range of manual features, and those that don't by default can be hacked to have them and many more features beside ( clicky for more info).

Macro- My camera has a failry good macro (a little pin-cushioning, but nothing major), and also has the added bonus of manual focussing if you wish to use it.

Batteries- The majority seem to use AA's, and last for quite a long time

Video- Most are quite good, with at least vga recording. If you hack the camera you can use optical zoom whilst recording as well.

The main reasons why I am recommending canons are the manual settings and use of AA batteries. ( For reference, my camera is the Canon Powershot A710 IS- review.)

After browsing Cnet, the Canon Powershot A590 IS may be what you are looking for, at a good price. Review.

Thanks for those links, I do like that range, I'm already using a Powershot A510. Which I would stick with, but it's video capture is really limited.

Any other suggestions?
