My wife and I are planning to take 6 months off and backpack around the world and we have started to think about cameras. We currently have a Canon EOS 400D and a very old Canon Powershot (with no optical zoom). We are discussing whether or not to take the DSLR as it's expensive and may make us a target in poorer areas of the world. As for the Compact, well it's not really cutting the mustard any more and we would like to replace it and definitely take the replacement. So, we are looking for something as versatile as possible to cover as many of the situations we will encounter. What do people suggest? Many thanks in advance, Arry

A superzoom? The Panasonic TZ7 is fab, although you'll need to buy two batteries as they don't last long.

That does look stunning, thanks. Depending on budget I might have to go for the TZ6, but still a much better camera than I have now. I have a Freeloader Solar Charge (http://www.freeloader.com.au/), I'm assuming there is no hope that would charge a decent digital camera.
